What is Nursery Funding?
Nursery funding helps families with the cost of early education and childcare. It is provided by the government and is claimed by your childcare provider on your behalf.
🧒 15 Hours Free Early Education (Universal Entitlement)
Who can get it?
All children aged 3 and 4 are entitled to 15 hours of free early education per week.
When does it start?
From the term after your child's 3rd birthday:
- Born between 1 Jan - 31 Mar → funding starts April (Summer Term)
- Born between 1 Apr - 31 Aug → funding starts September (Autumn Term)
- Born between 1 Sep - 31 Dec → funding starts January (Spring Term)
Where can it be used?
At approved nurseries, preschools, childminders, and playgroups.
👨👩👧 30 Hours Free Childcare (Extended Entitlement)
Who can get it?
Working parents of 3- and 4-year-olds may get up to 30 hours per week of free childcare during term time.
Eligibility:
- Each parent (or the single parent) must earn the equivalent of at least 16 hours a week at the National Minimum Wage.
- Each parent must earn under £100,000 per year.
- You must apply online for a 30 Hours Code at www.gov.uk/apply-30-hours-free-childcare.
You must apply and receive your code before the term starts.
👶 Funding for 2-Year-Olds
Some 2-year-olds are entitled to 15 hours of free childcare per week if their family meets certain criteria.
You may qualify if you receive:
- Income Support, Jobseeker's Allowance, or Universal Credit (with income below £15,400)
- Tax credits (with income below £16,190)
- The child has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or receives Disability Living Allowance
- The child is in local authority care or has left care under a special guardianship or adoption order
Apply through your local council - search online for "free childcare for 2-year-olds + [your council name]".

- Check your eligibility: www.beststartinlife.gov.uk
- Apply for a funding code (if applicable).
- Give your code and child's details to your nursery or childminder.
- Reconfirm your details every 3 months if using the 30 hours or Tax-Free Childcare.
💡 Other Support Options
- Tax-Free Childcare: Government pays £2 for every £8 you spend (up to £2,000 per year per child).
- Universal Credit: May cover up to 85% of childcare costs.
- Childcare Vouchers: (if your employer still offers them).
🏫 Things to Remember
- Funding is for childcare hours, not extras (meals, trips, or nappies may still be charged).
- Funded hours can be spread across multiple providers (check local rules).
- Always check with your nursery for their funded session times and availability.
Kidzproof Ltd funding: Breakfast club is offered during 8am-9am Monday-Friday this is £19.50 per session. During the hours of 3pm-6pm Kidzproof do not except funded hours, these can only be used during 9am-3pm Monday-Friday. At Kidzproof Ltd we are open 50 weeks of the year with 1 week off over Christmas and 5 training days. We stretch our funding meaning that if you are entitled to 15 hours per week you recieve 11 hours and if you are entitled to 30 hours you receive 22 hours funded.

Our sessions are in 3 hour blocks and therefore if you require any further hours these are charged at £19.50 per hour (unless between 3pm - 6pm during this period parents/carers can pay by the hour)
